As the sun receded in Mosgiel, bringing about the usual cool breeze associated with so many nights at track the Junior riders lit up the racing, only to be equalled by a rather large scrub fire on the Mosgiel hill.

Junior Conner McDonald was a standout in the nights revised programme with strong showings to win the 2 up kilo TT, partnered with Sian Remon, the 5 lap Handicap and the Point a Lap races. Conner also stepped up to the senior level as the first rider out in the hotly contested Italian Pursuit as the final race of the evening.

Up and coming rider Ewan Syme, who with consistent efforts on the track is rapidly progressing as a rider to watch out for in the coming seasons, pipped the fast finishing Chris Harvey on the line by a tire width in this race which sees the front rider for each the teams go full gas for one lap, catapulting the remaining riders towards the line. New comers to track racing Rosie and Lily Falcous showed great tenacity while Brother and Sister combos of Sam and Oliva McDonald, and Mila and Caleb Rollo continue to notch up good results. This can only be good for the Club in the years ahead.

With the holidays in full swing for most the revised session of Track, mastered by Mark Falcous, was called for. Combining the different grades into mainly handicapped races saw the higher graded riders working hard for the wins (which were not always guaranteed) and the lower graded riders getting a taste of both tactics and strong racing for more experience. Both in the Senior Point a Lap and Elimination races the racing was open to all for the win. Syme took out the elimination race ahead of Chris Harvey and Neil Derbyshire, and Harvey tactically sewing up the Point a Lap following a strong and organised chase from the Scratch Handicap. A three way tie for second and a two way tie for third in the Point a Lap race is the best way to describe the exciting nights racing for the first night back in 2015. May there be many more…
