Justin Stott made a scintillating return to Seddon Park track racing on Tuesday night. After an extended break from track racing including a prolific performance at last year’s Tour of Southland Stott showed his class with two wins on an exciting night of racing across all grades. Stott was only prevented from taking out all 3 by an on-form Michael Greaves who had a strong performance in the 12 lap scratch race and held off experienced racers Lachie McGregor and Stu Crooks in a sprint finish.

Ella Harris showed her form on the road is paying off at the track in the Senior B races, creating breaks in all 3 races and retaining enough power to sprint for the line. Wayne Evans denied her the trifecta in the 16 lap scratch race by taking the lead with 2 laps to go. In a sprint finish Harris took 2nd place and Bryony Telford finished 3rd.

Mark McCormack showed he is a junior to watch, making a return to track cycling after competing in speed skating events in China. McCormack took out all 3 junior races, ahead of a competitive Connor McDonald and Siân Remon. Grace Hurring also featured, finishing 3rd in the 8 lap scratch race and riding smartly, but narrowly finishing 4th in the elimination.

In the roadster racing Olivia McDonald took out the first handicap, with Caleb Rollo fighting hard to catch her over 2 laps. In the second race, Rollo caught McDonald with a lap to go, but McDonald wasn’t giving up, finishing just a bike length behind Rollo.

There will be a strong representation of Otago riders at the Southland Carnival this weekend as the seasons training begins to culminate.
