Flynn Cooper-Forster had a breakthrough night with a stellar performance in junior racing at Seddon Park on Tuesday night. The effervescent Cooper-Forster riding off 170m in the feature race of the evening, the junior handicap, rode through the field and held off strong riders from behind. Jody Syme, riding off 100m also rode strongly through the field finishing 2nd, followed by Caleb Rollo in 3rd. Cooper-Forster also won both junior boys races on the evening, holding off James Gardner who finished 2nd in both the 4-lap scratch race and 3-lap derby.

Madeleine Cooper-Forster rode smartly in the U15 girls grade, taking out both the 4-lap scratch and 3-lap derby. In the derby a determined Siân Remon took the lead from the start, but could not get away from Cooper-Forster who passed her in the back straight.

In the senior handicap race, Justin Gardner proved tough to catch and held off a bunch of 4 chasing riders for the entire race to cross the line in first place. Michael Stewart was the best of the chasing riders finishing 2nd, with Ewan Syme riding determinedly off scratch taking 3rd place. Bryony Telford attacked early in the 3-lap derby, gaining 70m on the chasing bunch. She couldn’t hold it however and was caught by a determined Ella Harris who finished in 1st place. Telford just managed to hold on to 2nd edging out Michael Stewart in 3rd.

Riders will now be focusing on upcoming championship racing, with Otago schools championships closely followed by Otago center championships looming.
